What is Ceramic Cookware?

Ceramic cookware might be better than nonstick cookware if the materials used in the latter contain materials or chemicals that are harmful to your body. However good quality nonstick cookware is a different topic and they can last too.

It is PFOA and PTFE free, also doesn’t contain toxic chemicals such as lead and cadmium. PFOA can cause renal disease, diabetes and other health effects. In short, ceramic cookware is safe for your health.

Widely used in Teflon based cookware, PTFE produces toxics hazardous to your health when cooking temperature reach a high of more than 450 degree F.

Lead is a heavy metal and often used for the glazing of ceramic coating. It can cause lead poisoning which in turn cause symptoms such as insomnia, fatigue and loss of appetite. Constant exposure to lead may also cause nerve damage, vision and hearing impairment.

Beware that certain ceramic cookware does contain lead. Often you will hear that acidic foods such as tomatoes may leech onto your food due to the lead contents of the ceramic pan.

Cadmium itself is another heavy metal. It is also very toxic to the body and can cause you to lose bone mineral density, weak bones, pneumonitis or cancer. It can even cause brain damage to children’s brain.

Why Use Ceramic Cookware?

There are some differences in how ceramic cookware works when compared to others such as stainless steel cookware or induction-ready cookware.

Unlike cookware made of metal, ceramic has a lower thermal conductivity, therefore it absorbs and releases heat at a slower rate.

However on the other hand, ceramics while operating on the slow, they are able to enhance the taste of your food and infuses the flavors into it.

A popular analogy about describing how ceramic works best is the marshmallow analogy. A marshmallow when can almost instantly scorch in hot metal cookware but a ceramic pan can slowly melt the marshmallows. An example will be achieving a great S’mores dip using the ceramic pan.

A pure and best ceramic pan is one that is just as slow in heating up but is able to carry out its functions very well and does not contain any reactive metals or toxic substances.

Why Orgreenic Ceramic Frying Pan is Not in The List?

I guess there are quite a bit of hype surrounding the Orgreenic 12-inch ceramic fry pan.

There are a number of consumers wondering why I didn’t include the Orgreenic ceramic skillet in my Top list? Well, I hope that if you are looking to get this fry pan in the first place, this review can really help you decide if you still want to go with it.

In order for this pan to work well for its non-stick function, it was suggested that you need to use vegetable shortening as a seasoning on the cooking surface. Pre-heat the pan at around 200 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour before you start using it.

Unfortunately, there are many feedback from consumers that the skillet’s wasn’t performing as what they have expected even they have followed the instructions clearly.

  • Worked fine for first few uses but eggs began to stick on the surface and some even left a burned mark.
  • Initial seasoning works alright but subsequent re-seasoning doesn’t help much in preventing food from sticking to the frying pan.
  • Very difficult to clean off the stains.
  • Material was not as high quality, constructed with thin metal.
  • The handle can get really hot if used on medium heat for a period of time.

In simple words, I do not want to say that this pan doesn’t fit into the top quality category but multiple negative reviews are quite obvious on how this will pan out.

However today I’m going to share with you some of the top and great quality ones (we even tested some ourselves) which have gathered tons of positive feedback in this list of Best Ceramic Cookware Sets and Skillets 2017.

What are the Top Rated Ceramic Cookware Sets in 2018?

  • 9.5-inch frying pan

The Thermolon ceramic coating allows you to clean the cookware set easily without too much hassles. If you are not aware of what Thermolon is, it is the patented ceramic coating with non-stick function by GreenPan. The patented Thermolon enables superior thermal conductivity, so you can cook with lower heat and yet produces the same good food taste.

If you come across hard-to-clean stains or food that sticks to the cookware, soak it in washing detergent and water for 1 to 2 hours before washing them. If this method doesn’t work well, just use the Barkeepers Friend to ease off those stains and residue. While the cookware surfaces are scratch-resistant, do not use metal utensils to cook. Though this set is dishwasher safe, I recommend hand-wash for longer lifespan.

When it comes to cooking, the ceramic cookware offers good and even heat distribution with its thick and fine quality aluminium base. Interior surface wise, the coating of Thermolon allows you to cook without much oil and this certainly promotes healthy eating. The exterior of pots and pans are sturdy and durable.

The ceramic set also brings good convenience to your kitchen. The handle is safe and comfortable to hold while the material resists itself from getting heated up.

Now the most important part about this GreenPan Rio ceramic cookware. It is made to be PFOA-free, lead-free and cadmium-free. Simply said, there will be no toxic fumes released even if you go to a high temperature of 850 degree F. Thus you can be sure the set of pots pans are safe to use for a healthy lifestyle.

Basically this set of GreenPan 12-Piece Rio ceramic cookware is good for a start. Free of toxics and chemical release is essential for healthy eating. Though food does not stick to the pans, cleaning well and taking basic care is still necessary. Definitely qualified to be in this list of best ceramic cookware sets.

#2. WearEver C943SF 15-Piece Set

Top Ceramic Cookware - WearEver C943SF

The 15-piece WearEver C943SF is coated with a ceramic material that is highly resistant to stain, sticking and scraping.

This ceramic cookware set is constructed to last for many years and is one of the best in the WearEver series.

The ceramic cookware is designed to be eco-friendly. You do not have to worry about it containing any substances or chemicals that are harmful to the body. It is a healthy cookware in a way that while it does not need a lot of oil to cook, the food can still be tasty.

For the 10-pc set, it comes with the following:

  • 3-qt sauce pan with glass lid
  • 3.5-qt sauté pan with glass lid
  • 5-qt dutch oven with glass lid
  • 8-inch and 10.5-inch skillets
  • Slotted turner
  • Nylon spoon

Designed for healthy cooking and eating, this ceramic cookware is free of lead, cadmium, PTFE and PFOA. You do not have to worry that toxins will be released.

As the ceramic pots and pans are quick to heat up and distribute heat evenly to the cookware, refrain from using high heat on your stovetops. Medium temperatures are good enough for most dishes and this can help the cookware to last longer.

The non-stick characteristics of the pans is something that is worth mentioning. It has been in everyone’s mind about how important the function is for cooking. I’m happy to say that this ceramic cookware set does not stick even with no oil used at all.

They are easy to clean and wash without the need of scrubbing. As long as high heat is not used, the pots and pans should be able to perform well and last for quite a while. To go one step further, you might want to season the pans with coconut oil to enable cleaning even easier.

The ceramic cookware set comes with a total of 3 glass lids. What I like about them is that the lids are interchangeable between the frying pans. The saucepan and smaller skillet can fit the smaller lid while the sauté pan and larger skillet can fit the medium glass lid.

Always remember to use either nylon, plastic or silicon utensils instead of metal to prevent scratching of the enamel coating. Though the cookware is scratch-resistant, you would want to do your part to lengthen their lifespan.

The cooking surface of this set of WearEver ceramic cookware can withstand higher temperatures of up to 750 degree F. However they can withstand up to 350 degree F when used in the oven, which applies to the riveted silicon handles of the pots and pans.

If you have bad experience with heavy cookware, fret not because this set are rather light and easy to handle. Personally I have difficulties in handling heavier weights but for this set they don’t poise much problems for me.

  • Free of lead, cadmium, PTFE, PFOA
  • Durable but not too heavy
  • Easy to handle
  • Cooking surface can handle up to 750 degree F
  • Handle up to 350 degree F in oven
  • Handles are comfortable and ergonomic
  • Non-stick surface
  • Easy to clean
  • Great cooking performance for searing meats
  • Interchangeable glass covers
  • Dishwasher-safe but not recommended
  • Not compatible for induction stovetops
  • Need to take care of cookware well
  • Most probably won’t be able to last more than a couple of years

Final verdict for this WearEver C943SF non-stick ceramic cookware review is that it has all the necessary functions for your cooking needs. Though the set doesn’t stick and is not difficult to wash, proper care is still needed.

There are mixed opinions on whether the cookware can last at all. However all cookware goes through wear and tear, especially ceramic. But if you are looking for a healthy cooking and eating, then this set will be something you would want to consider getting.

#3. Cook N Home NC-00359 10-Piece Set

Ceramic Cookware Review - Cook N Home NC-00359

This set of Cook N Home ceramic cookware has a superior ceramic coating that give a scratch-resistant performance.

While many cookware’s non-stick properties may cause harm to your body, this Cook N Home does not.

The pots and pans are totally PFOA-free, PTFE-free, lead and cadmium free. A truly chemical-free cookware set.

What’s included in the set:

  • 5-Quart Dutch oven with lid
  • 3-Quart casserole with lid
  • 1-Quart sauce pan with lid
  • 2-Quart sauce pan with lid
  • 8-inch and 9-inch frying pan

We have gathered many feedback about this cookware and most of them do not have any issue with the coating. Though the cooking surface is light in color, the stains are easily cleaned off.

One of the issues with Teflon is that though it is great with its coating, they have rather high tendency of getting scratched, sometimes even chipped off.

This ceramic cookware is scratch-proof but do not use metal utensils with it as they may leave some scratches on the surface. Turn to silicon, wood or plastic utensils to use with this set.

The ceramic pots and pans work well with all the cooking method except they are not suitable for induction.

When it comes to heating and cooking, the cookware has thick aluminium on the bottom which is able to conduct heat brilliantly.

As for the cooking heat to use for these pans, I’ll stick to low to medium as what they have been recommended for. I would not try on high heat as I do not want to risk ruining them. In fact most of the time there’s no need to even go to medium high because the pans conduct heat so well and fast.

A word of caution though. I mainly use hand-wash for these sort of pans as I believe dishwasher may get a bit hard on the enamel coating.

You don’t really need to worry about staining on the cookware because they can be quite easily cleaned with just a soft sponge, soap and water. Do try to dry it up immediately after washing.

Though the pots and pans seem to look compact and small, they can actually hold up to around 2 to 7 pax of portion. A nice size I would say for a small family. They can be used for stews, eggs, pancakes and even searing steaks.

  • PTFE and PFOA free
  • Lead and cadmium free, safe and non-toxic
  • Non-stick feature
  • Scratch resistant
  • Great heat conductivity
  • Comfortable handle for holding
  • Works with most of the cooktop except induction
  • Easy to clean and maintain
  • Oven safe up to 350 degree F
  • Sturdy
  • Have to take caution of the hot screws on the underside of handles
  • Need to soak with water and detergent for stubborn stains
  • Is not induction compatible
  • Not recommended to use with dishwasher

Conclusion is that this ceramic cookware set is a good value for money. Quality is good enough for a small family and the price really inexpensive. Even though this cookware may not last for ages like ultra-durable stainless steel cookware, they can perform well for your cooking needs and will be tougher to break if you do some basic care.

Phew! Finally we have the top 3 ceramic cookware sets reviewed.

But it’s not quite done yet, below I’m going to review the 3 top ceramic skillets for those of you who just want to add a piece or 2 for your kitchen essentials.

Best Ceramic Skillet: 3 Top Frying Pans Reviews

If you already have a whole set of cookware but would want to expand from there or replace some pans. Then I do have some recommendations for top-quality skillets. Below we have done extensive research on the best ceramic pans and we handpicked 3 winners here.

#1. Tramontina 80110/043DS Ceramica Fry Pan

Best Ceramic Pan

The Tramontina 10-inch ceramic frying pan is one of the high-quality pan in its series of collection.

Beautifully crafted and designed, this ceramic skillet is a long-lasting kitchen essential that boast in its functionality as well as a good value for money.

What attracted me most about this ceramic pan and what earned the pan a top rating is its durability.

If you have done enough research, you will know that most ceramic cookware though healthy and not pricey, it gets worn out pretty fast.

However this Tramontina ceramic skillet proved that with a little usage care and don’t dos, it can serve you well in terms of cooking performance and flexibility.

Though the features for Tramontina do not state that the ceramic cookware is scratch-proof, the skillet is decent enough to resist any scratches. As long as you are not using metal or sharp utensils and do not cook with brute force, the surface should be free from visible damage. Always use plastic, silicone or wood utensils to go with ceramic cookware.

As the pan is cadmium, lead, PFOA and PTFE-free, the cooking surface will not release harmful chemicals. However the downside is that you will not get the optimal heat release from the aluminium cooking surface if it’s exposed.

Many are concerned about the non-stick feature for ceramic cookware. For this particular pan, if you followed the basic care instructions it works pretty well.

Recommendation is to do seasoning for the cooking surface and use some coconut oil everytime you use it for example frying eggs. Even though sometimes you may still experience slight residue, soaking it with soap and water will resolve the issue. Would say that it’s still easier to clean than a stainless steel cookware.

Some asked if the metallic copper frying pan can be used for searing meats. Well, since the skillet only works best on low to medium heat, you will not be able to utilize high heat searing here. However the pans can still achieve good crispy chicken and browning food.

The ceramic frying pan can be used in oven for up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Though it is also dishwasher safe, I prefer to use hand-wash especially for ceramic materials.

You can use the skillet on almost any cooktop such as electric, gas, ceramic, glass etc except for induction range. This pan doesn’t come with a lid though, but the handle is nice to hold.

The company also offers a lifetime warranty with exceptions of improper use or abuse. Since they are willing to do that, it shows they are quite confident of their products. For more details, you can visit their site.

  • Compatible to use with ceramic, glass, gas and electric cooktops
  • Non-stick surface is all PTFE, PFOA, Cadmium and Lead-FREE
  • One of the MOST durable ceramic pans to date
  • Constructed with heavy-duty aluminium base
  • Good heat distribution
  • Easy cleaning with little efforts
  • Comfortable, stay-cool and easy-grip handle
  • Oven safe up to 350 degree F
  • Dishwasher safe (I won’t recommend it though)
  • Made in Italy
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • Does not contain magnetic base, non induction-ready skillet
  • May need a little of your time to take basic care
  • Need small amount of seasoning for long-lasting effect
  • Not recommended for high heat cooking

Verdict for this Tramontina non-stick ceramic pan is that for its decent price, the cookware cooks predictably and the heat is well-distributed. May not be as perfect as Teflon but you are getting a healthy cookware here. Recommended for a pretty good quality ceramic pan.

#2. WearEver C94433 3.5-Quart Ceramic Sauté Pan

Best Ceramic Saute Pan

The WearEver C94433 non-stick, ceramic-coated sauté pan is a cookware that’s free of harmful chemicals. In other words it is PTFE-free, PFOA-free, lead and cadmium free.

Indeed a good start for a healthy cooking. Coated with Champagne color for its exterior, this pan looks truly classy and is the best ceramic frying pan with great appearance.

It performs well with ceramic cooktop, gas top and even on glass stovetop. Except that it is not induction compatible.

The pan can heat up quickly with just medium heat and food can be cooked real fast.

When it comes to cleaning and washing, this pan is one of the easiest ceramic cookware to get rid of stains. Just soak it with washing detergent and water if some food are hard to come off.

If there are situations where you left the pan without washing for days and it became stained, Bar Keepers Friend (BKF) is the straightforward solution.

Many have asked whether this ceramic sauté pan is good for cooking eggs? Absolutely! Be it boiled, scrambled or fried, the eggs do not stick on the pans.

If you wish, you can use a few drops of canola oil. But according to our user’s feedback, most of them don’t really use any oil at all. However do take note that since the sides of the pan is straight, it’s harder to use spatula on the eggs. So be careful not to scratch the pans while using the utensils.

Diameter of this pan is 10.25 inches by 2.25 inches deep, providing enough cooking surface and depth. In fact, it works well like a wok and there’s enough room to use it with a steamer inside.

The ceramic pan comes with a glass lid. It has a vented hole which is good for letting out steam. The handles of the pan has a good grip and do not pick up heat easily with its superior heat-insulated rubber.

Though the non-stick ceramic pan is packaged and made in China (well, 90% of stuffs are made there nowadays), it was engineered in the USA. Thus you can be assured that the quality is top-notch. And because of its slick design, you wouldn’t believe it’s from China actually.

This is a dishwasher-safe ceramic sauté pan but I don’t fancy using with it. Using hand wash will be perfect for this pan as you can really extend its lifespan this way.

  • Suitable for most cooking methods other than induction cooking
  • PTFE-free, PFOA-free
  • Cadmium-free
  • Environmental friendly pan
  • Recyclable pan allows for healthy cooking
  • Thick aluminium base for even distribution of heat
  • Durable
  • Stain and scratch resistant
  • Cooking surface – up to 700 degree F
  • Silicone handles – up to 250 degree F
  • Oven safe – up to 350 degree F
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Do not use high heat, it could scorch the surface
  • Not suitable to be used with metal utensils
  • Not induction-compatible

Conclusion is that this is one of the quality and top-rated ceramic pans, mainly credits to its healthy cooking. Great cooking performance and totally free of harmful toxics. A solid purchase. Good price. Highly recommended.

#3. Greenlife 2-Piece Ceramic Frying Pans

Best Ceramic Skillets

This 2-piece Greenlife ceramic cookware set comprises of the 7-inch and 10-inch skillets.

The 10-inch is good  for frying a whole fish or even make a pizza. The smaller sized one can be used for eggs or smaller portion cooking.

Basically these 2 pans are specially designed for healthy cooking and eating!

Although the two ceramic skillets are lightweight, they have a solid aluminium base with good heat conductivity.

Because the pans are such good heat conductor, you have to be careful when the heat goes from medium to high. They get hot real quickly and can scorch the surface and food.

There are 2 colors available for this model, red and turquoise. Personally I prefer the latter as the color is more vibrant and suits my kitchen theme more. Besides turquoise always reminds me of fresh and healthy, which can help to motivate me to cook healthier food.

When you are using the skillets, typically medium heat is good enough to cook most food. You can cover with the lid for a couple of minutes before finishing the dish. This helps to keep the taste and moisture in the food that you are cooking.

These 2-piece ceramic skillets are advertised as non-stick pans. We have researched and verified on that. It works great as what GreenLife had claimed.

Almost all of the time the pans do not leave stains that are too stubborn to wash away. If they do, just conveniently use BarKeeper’s Friend to remove the stains.

Cooking an egg is fast and easy too. Just drip one or two drops of oil onto the cookware surface before frying the eggs and most likely they will not stick to the pans. Always use non-metal utensils such as wood, plastic or bamboo for ceramic pans so as not to damage the cooking surface.

The pans are easy to clean but take note to cool them down before washing. This is the same for other types of pots and pans.

There are a couple of negative feedback for these skillets. But which cookware is perfect and free from complaints? Many of times the users misused the cookware by using them frequently with high heat, without the use any oil or not washing them thoroughly.

You may use the skillets in oven up to 350 degree F only as the handles which can’t take on super high heat.

  • Cooking surface does not stick
  • Good cooking performance
  • Stable and good heat distribution
  • Easy for cleaning
  • Reasonably priced
  • Nice and beautiful appearance
  • Oven safe up to 350 degrees F
  • Dishwasher safe, but I use handwash
  • No metal utensils or else they will cause flaking
  • Lifespan may not last as long as a cast iron skillet

Overall these GreenLife ceramic skillets can be good addition to your existing cookware set. As long as you take basic care such as not overheating the pans, using small amount of oil and cleaning them well, they can give good cooking performance and are good value for money at this price. Functions better than many non-stick pans in the market.

That is all for our list of top 3 ceramic pan reviews. Hopefully it did provide some really useful insights for you and give you a clearer picture on their individual performance.

How to Clean Ceramic Pans?

Here’s a little useful guide on how to clean your ceramic skillet and how you can prolong its lifespan while using it daily for all your cooking needs.

The ceramic cooking surface is designed for easy cleaning so you should not find too much difficulty in removing any stains. If there are some stains or food residue, just soak it with some mild detergent and water for 1 hour. Wash the pans up with soft sponge and avoid using any abrasive cleansers such as scouring pads and steel wool.

If there are stubborn stains like tomato sauce which are very acidic and tough to remove, for a cheaper option you can try using lemon with baking soda and water. Gently scrub on the stained area. Alternatively the easiest way to remove stubborn stains and a cleaner many people use is the BarKeeper’s Friend (BKP) cleaner.

After thoroughly cleaning and washing your pans, dry them up immediately. An additional step to care for your skillet and take it to good durability is to season the pan by using a light layer of cooking or olive oil. Then use medium heat to heat up the skillet for about 2 minutes. After cooling it, wash with water and dry it.

I know this particular step of seasoning for this ceramic skillet is not necessary. And honestly speaking I believe not many consumers do that. However this can actually make a difference in whether your ceramic cookware can last longer.

Refrain from using non-stick aerosol sprays on your ceramic cookware. They will cause the food to stick to on the cooking surface and leave a layer of residue.

How to Use Ceramic Skillets The Right Way?

Everytime before you start throwing the food into your skillet and before you start cooking, spread a small amount of olive oil or coconut oil on the pan. They can prevent sticking better than vegetable oil.

Heat up the pans for about 2 minutes or so with small to medium heat. Do not use high heat ever. It will damage your skillet in the long term even if it’s the best ceramic pan in the world. In fact, ceramic material can’t withstand too high of a temperature.

Final Words and Verdict

We are finally done! I hope you are still here? I understand that this is quite a lengthy ceramic cookware review but I sincerely hope the list can help you pick the best ceramic pots and pans. Especially when it comes to researching and purchasing decisions.

Do keep in mind that there is no ‘perfect’ cookware or solution, it all boils down to what you need and what you are looking for. It is also important that you take basic care of the pans and understand how each of them work. For example even the most durable non stick pans may wear out if you don’t take good care of it.

If you think we have missed out a really good ceramic cookware that you are using or come across, do let us know and we will gladly do a review on it.

Spread the Love
