The handles of the Cooks Standard NC-00391 are well-riveted to the pots and pans for good stability. Unlike those handles which are glued to the sides of the cookware, you do not have to worry when you flip the food on the pans. The handles will not break off.
Besides, the handles stay cool when you are cooking so you don’t have to worry about scalding your hands.
The handles and rims are also made of stainless steel without any rubber in it. You can use the cookware in oven with temperature up to a maximum of 500 degree F.
The lids are made of glass and every lid has a small vented hole for steam to escape.
However, the glass lids are not designed to withstand such an extreme high temperature. So do note and be reminded not to use the glass covers together with the cookware in the oven.
Heat Distribution: 4.5/5 Very Good.
This cookware set utilizes on the “Impact Bonding” technology which applies aluminium disc to the bottom of the pots and pans for even heat distribution.
This is an 18/10 high grade stainless steel cookware. It is important that the cookware is graded 18/10 as it contains higher concentration of nickel and is less likely to rust compared to other grades of metals.
In other words, 18/10 stainless steel comprises of 18% chromium and 10% nickel.
The cookware set has great heat transfer but doesn’t overheat. The bottom of the pans are constructed with thick metals and it heats evenly.
When it comes to boiling water, it will take just around 10 minutes. Besides, the pans actually retain heat better than quite a number of other cookware out there.
When you are cooking on medium to high heat or even simmer, the food doesn’t get burnt if you keep an eye on it.
Try using the cookware frequently and you will be able to find the optimal heat that can cook your food at the fastest time with the best taste.
Value for Money: 4.7/5 Excellent.
Unlike some other brands which are claimed to be induction-ready, these Cooks Standard pots and pans have been well-tested and they are definitely workable on different ranges of induction cooktops. Read more on the best induction cookware ranges here.
Not only that, we have tested the set on electric and ceramic stove and it works brilliantly as well!
For non-stick coated cookware, the only choices you have is wood, bamboo or plastic utensils. However with this stainless steel constructed cookware, you can use metal utensils and they will not leave visible scratches on it.
Just a word of caution though. If you wish to use this Cooks Standard cookware set for a long time, try to use the metals utensils gently. This way you will hardly experience scratches and will prolong the lifespan of the cookware.
If you are someone who are very cautious and want to be on the safe side, then using wood or bamboo utensils will definitely cause no issues to your pots and pans. They are a budget cookware set after all!
Ease of use: 4.6/5 Excellent.
This set of pots and pans have a total of 5 lids and is one of the cookware sets that have the most number of lids. This is made very convenient for cooking as the lids are interchangeable between the pots and sauté pan.
As opposed to cast iron cookware, there isn’t a need for seasoning this stainless steel cookware. However here is a simple guide on how you should be using them.
Before cooking the food, you should use low to medium heat to heat up the pans first. Food might stick to the pans if the temperature is too low or too hot. Once the temperature gets just right, add in some canola or olive oil and you are good to start cooking!
Cleaning and Maintenance: 4.2/5 Very Good.
Some people have asked me if it’s advisable to use a steel wool cleaner to clean the set of stainless steel cookware. I am strongly against the idea of using steel wool as it will just increase the chances of scratching the surface of the cookware.
Yes, the cookware is durable enough but we have to take basic care so that it not only performs as well as at the beginning when you first bought them but also doing our little part to prolong its lifespan.
If I come across stubborn stains, grease or some food sticking to the pans, the first thing I will do is to soak it with cleaning detergent for around half an hour. About 90% of the time the stains can be washed off after that.
If I’m still not able to get rid of those stains, then I’ll use a rather quick method Bar Keepers Friend. It never fail to keep my cookware cleaned and polished.
Although Cooks Standard claimed that the cooking set is dishwasher safe, try not to use dishwasher too often.
I am never a fan of dishwasher. I would rather spend a little more time to wash the cookware and do my part to extend its lifespan.
These pots and pans will stay real shiny as what it looked like when you first purchased, as long as you wash them clean. Their great shine doesn’t seems like it is going away at any time.
